Villa Alionas, Katelios,Kefalonia
In an elevated position above the small road that winds down into the village of Katelios and its pretty sea front, Villa Alionas just about ticks every box we can think of, for a memorable Villa holiday in Kefalonia.
It' s about a 25 mins walk down to the beach (passing by the bakery, a minimarket and a few tavernas) , where there are several tavernas and cafes by the waterside.
There’s a pretty tamarisk tree backed sandy beach scattered with pebbles where there are also sunbeds for hire and, at the other end of the village, a small harbour where the days catch is brought in to be served in the tavernas later in the day.
An attractive Villa, its deep terracotta walls are encircled by hand cut stone paved terraces which have been laid with regard to several original and beautiful old olive trees and now, even in the height of summer, the reward is manifold when the sun is at its height as there's always a shady spot to retreat to with a good book or a few toys, depending on your age.
The most ardent sun seeker won’t be disappointed as there's a sunny sea view pool terrace furnished with sunbeds with the sparkling tiled 8m x 4 m pool (depths 1.35 – 1.65) close by for a cooling dip.
The villa is made for easy holiday living with spacious air conditioned accommodation and plenty of double glazed windows and French doors, all fitted with shutters and retractable fly screens.
The whole ground floor is a bright and spacious living area furnished with some solid and traditional pieces of furniture and a lovely, more contemporary and serviceable, solid wood table and leather covered chairs next to the kitchen area, well equipped with an electric cooker with 5 ring ceramic hob, large fridge freezer, microwave and dishwasher.
French doors simplify transporting meals onto the sea view, south facing tiled terrace that runs the width of the Villa or down 5 steps to a marble table in the shade of an olive tree on the lower terrace.
Three creamy leather sofas in the sitting area make for comfortable viewing of the plasma TV and there are more French doors onto the south facing covered terrace. An alternative sitting area is furnished with deep red sofas and there’s another French door to a shady side terrace.
There is also a convenient full shower room on the ground floor.
All four bedrooms, on the first floor, have smart ensuite shower rooms, plenty of wardrobe space, bedside tables and lights and access via sliding patio doors to a balcony. The three twin bedrooms are of a similar size whilst the double bedroom is even more spacious.
Daytrip boats often stop at Katelios at which time the tavernas will be busy, but in the evening the pace slows and this is when the locals come down to enjoy the laid back atmosphere of this little seaside village and Katelios seems almost set adrift under the stars on the coast of this small Greek Island.
There are many beautiful beaches in this south east corner of the island and 10 mins drive away the resort of Skala offers more in the way of tourist activities. In the summer there’s a boat that makes the trip between Katelios, Skala and Poros three times a day or hire a boat for the day and explore the little beaches inaccessible by car.

A laid back seaside village with a gently shelving sand and pebble beach, known for its excellent choice of fish tavernas.
The village settles into the bottom of a wide south facing valley that runs down to the coast, where fertile fields yield a variety of fruit and vegetables. As the valley runs into the sea there's a scattering of private Villas and houses, spread out across the valley floor. A quiet resort in the evening where trawling the beachside road to select a table at a taverna is the predominant activity, during the day visitors swell the number of holidaymakers brought in by car, a local bus and a water taxi service from Skala to enjoy the pretty bay.
