Location of Villa Maragoudi
Armeni, Crete

Something of a foodies paradise, the village of Armeni is notable for its large shady plain trees lining the main street where you will find a choice of simple cafenions and three excellent tavernas. There is also a small mini -market and amazingly, a well stocked delicatessen with wonderful local cheeses, yoghurt and charcuterie as well as a large choice of frozen fish! Of a morning, fresh bread is delivered to the cafenion on the small triangular central square, you'll see what we mean! Nearby Kalives (approx 5min drive) 18 km east of Chania and strung along the edge of Souda Bay, Kalives is still very much a Greek village that has taken tourism in its stride and the bustling main street reflects the status quo with local shops, mini markets, tavernas and cafes happily doing business with all and sundry.

Great Villa
"Maria and Dino’s home is very well equipped for a family holiday. The kitchen is well kitted for our meals. We enjoyed using the outdoor kitchen complete with grill, oven, sink and freezer fridge. The kids loved the pool, baby pool, playing table tennis, collecting oranges from the orange trees, collecting eggs and feeding the chickens. The mattresses are firm with at least two pillows per person. There were extra blankets for cool and evenings. The local village is a short walk in with a market, butcher, cafes and taverns. Everyone we ran into was very kind and spoke good to good enough English. The house is about a 25min drive to old Chania. Maria and Dino welcomed us to their home and showed us around and gifted us with Raki, Olive Oil and fresh oranges and avocados. The Freelance Team welcomed us with a few necessities. Dino came over as we were leaving with another small gift. They are a lovely couple. Diana and her team were very quick in responding "

Amazing villa!
"Amazing villa! Perfect to relax in peace and quiet with its own orange grove and chickens. Also a great location to explore everywhere - 5 min walk into the village - 5 min drive to the beach - 20 mins drive to Channia and 40 mins drive to the mountains. The hosts were really helpful and even cleaned the pool every day. Would definitely recommend and would love to go back"

Excelent Villa

Just amazing !!
"Villa Maragoudi is amazing! Our stay began with a warm and personal welcome from the hosts who personally show you around and are happy to take time to talk with you and answer questions about the property and the surrounding area. The property is large, easily accomodating the 7 of us in proper beds in bedrooms. The quality of the home is fantastic. The outdoor living spaces are probably the highlight. We will have so many memories of the kids jumping into the pool while we BBQ or cooked pizza in the wood fired pizza oven. Every night we all ate together around the large outdoor table. The location was ideal for us. It is 5 minutes walk from a lovely little village full of friendly people. It is 10 minutes drive from a larger village and beach. But Crete has so many wonderful beaches we preferred to stay centrally and experience many different beaches rather than stay right on one beach. The final highlight has to be the orchard in the back yard. Fresh eggs from the chickens each day and fresh squeezed orange juice from the citrus orchard. And avocados when they are season. This place is a real gem. I can’t think of a better place I have stayed."

Fantastic location
"The Villa in a fantastic location, in the country side but walking distance to the nearby village. The views by the pool are amazing, better than the photos show. The owners are a lovely couple that were extremely hospitable and provided us with many recommendations and information about the area. Would definitely stay again."

Absolutely lovely villa
"An absolutely lovely villa in a great little crete town. The house is perfect for a group (there were 8 of us) as it has two separate two bedroom apartments that are kitted out well with everything you'd need for making meals and relaxing. The outside area is where it's at though. They have a fantastic pool with sunbeds with umbrellas, table tennis and a cooking area with a grill. The land attached to it is huge (that they own and you can walk through) with orange trees to pick (they have a juicer inside to make free OJ) and chickens that lay eggs every morning for breakfast. The view of the snow capped mountains is quite breathtakingly too. A truly idyllic spot. The nearby town (5-minute walk) has some nice restaurants and everyone is VERY friendly. They are genuinely happy to have tourists there. The host (who popped in a few times) was lovely, brought us lots of local delicacies to try and was very helpful and friendly. We hope to visit again soon"

Ideal
"The Villa is an ideal place for a relaxing holiday. It was spacious, sparkling clean and maintained to a very high standard. The pictures just don't do it justice. The local Taverna's are within walking distance and all provide good food and great service at a very reasonable cost."

Everything just perfect
"Everything was crystal clear from the beginning (detailed route planning, scheduled welcome with the owners, kind welcome pack with local product, ...). Everything during the stay was just perfect (the rooms, the outside kitchen, the pool,...). The fresh orange juice with the oranges from the orange trees was the sherry on the cake of our breakfast :-) The small shops in the village make it convenient and the different tavernes nearby are very nice (especially Tzitzikas !)"

Great Villa
"We had a great stay at the villa. The small town of Armeni is really nice. As others said we could pick oranges from the trees to make fresh orange juice. Also the salt water pool was really nice (not salty at all), the kids used hours in the water. Great storage options, closets and drawers. Can only recommend! We had such a nice stay! Thank you for the hospitality"
Keith
We had a great holiday.
"We had a great holiday. The owners, Dino and Maria were there to meet us and gave us a very warm welcome. This was to set the standard for the 10 days we were there; Dino and Maria could not have done more for us and we were showered with eggs, avocados, pastries and pomegranates throughout our stay. The villa was spotlessly clean and was delightfully presented. We were particularly impressed with the standard of the crockery, glass, furniture and fittings. The weather was hot (26C) during the day, but the evenings quickly cooled down and we realised that we should have taken jeans and sweaters. Dino came to service the pool every other day and the villa was cleaned, and the bedding and towels changed, 3 times during our 10 night stay. We enjoyed being on the edge of the village and everyone we met was friendly and helpful. We enjoyed our stay so much that we have already booked for next year."

Such a brilliant holiday!
"Spent a week here with friends and young children. The configuration of this villa lends itself very well to two groups of friends/families travelling together. Ideal if you want to do your own thing but have social time together by the pool, BBQs etc. The facilities themselves were faultless. The kitchens are extremely well appointed and had everything you could possibly need. The pool area is stunning with delightful views out over the orchard (oranges and avocados galore, all free to help yourself to - thanks to the very generous owners). Chickens strut around the orchard and often come up to the low stone wall boundary to say hello! (Talking of chickens, if you are travelling with a baby, you might find the local villagers give you eggs... we must have been gifted over a dozen in one walk just because we had our baby with us!) The village of Armenoi is beautiful. We can wholeheartedly recommend eating at the Drostostalia taverna in the village square (opposite the church)... stunning food and very large portions! There is a small mini-market/coffee bar situated a couple of doors up from Drostostalia run by a local woman. She was lovely, spoke perfect English and really couldn't do enough for us. If you like pitta breads, ask her to order some local ones from the baker... we did, they arrived later that day and we're stunning warmed through on the barbecue. So much to say about so many things... villa was lovely, owners (who will most likely pop and say hi) are very kind yet unobtrusive, village is authentic, the wider local area is beautiful... I have travelled with Freelance Holidays on a number of occasions and they are excellent. Very responsive and efficient, and clearly experts on the towns and villages nearby. We followed a number of recommendations for beaches and places to eat in the information pack and were always impressed. One little find was out on the national highway from Kalives towards Rethymnon. Follow the main road about 25 minutes, out beyond Georgioupoli (about half way to Petres), and carry on until you see a collection of about 3 or 4 beach tavernas set off the main road... with shaded parking in front. There was one called Chrysos Asterias that is worth checking out. Amazing food (don't miss the calamari!) and its own stunning beach with free sun loungers and waitress service. Great play areas for little ones too. "

"A fantastic villa, with fabulous uninterrupted views of the White Mountains over the owners orange grove. The villa is exceptionally well equipped, we were a party of seven and all said the villa and location were fantastic. The pool and jacuzzi were well appreciated as was the barbecue area, which, like the villa is well equipped with fridge, sink and all necessary utensils."
Walter
Perfect
"This is a wonderful villa. It is split level (so great for two families) with up to date equipment (including a fantastic outdoor BBQ and wood fired "pizza oven") and, for the first time ever, even has sharp knives! We collected fruit/Avocado on the property (orange juice every morning) and eggs from the chickens (kids love it). The pool was in constant use and the "maids" did a fantastic job keeping the place clean. The owners (and any other locals you bump into) are very friendly and helpful, the setting is idyllic (in the Olive and fruit trees outside the village) but 5 minutes walk to a choice of excellent tavernas, butcher (and cheese!), baker, mini market etc..etc..in the lovely village/town of Armeni and 5 mins drive to the beach. Its always a leap to book something when all you can see is a few pictures online....I recommend you leap...."
Tony
Really enjoyable
"This house is a spacious and welcoming space for a family base to explore Crete. The house is cool, well appointed, a lovely welcome pack, and warm welcome from the owners who met us on arrival. They generously allowed us to pick oranges from their trees (how wonderful!) for the most delicious juice (everyday for breakfast!), and even eggs from their chickens. It is easy to walk into the village for supplies or food at the tavernas, and a short hop to the local beaches. The pool is large, beautifully maintained, and the barbecue area and outdoor eating area is great for evening meals."
Ryan
This villa is Incredible!
"This villa is incredible! About 30 minutes from Chania, a few km and a five minute drive from the beach at Kalyves and within the cute village of Armeni, this spot is hard to beat. It's in a quiet area and feels like the area is yours for miles despite being a five minute walk into town. The tavernas in Armenoi are friendly, good quality and very low cost. The villa itself was so much fun. The pool, the jacuzzi, the chickens that eggs yielded daily by chickens, the citrus trees, the beautiful rooms, the friendly neighbours - all incredible. We genuinely felt at home. Our hosts were very hospitable providing us with complimentary wine, olive oil, cleaning and a thorough description of everything in this villa. They were even so gracious as to give us a parting gift and see us off. Lovely people. No complaints, highly recommend! "
